Grab your quill and dig the dancing shoes out of the cupboard: Bridgerton has officially announced the launch date for its hotly anticipated third season.

“Rejoice in this most thrilling news,” the show’s UK Twitter site said, adding: “Bridgerton Season 3 shall debut in two parts: Part 1 on May 16th and Part 2 on June 13th.”

The news was accompanied by a teaser video, which compiles tweets from fans desperate to know more about the upcoming season – “I need Bridgerton season 3 right now,” one says, while another adds that "we need some season 3 crumbs like water in a drought #Bridgerton” – with short clips of the show’s characters asking about the whereabouts of the Bridgerton family, and of course Lady Whistledown.

“Gentle reader, you thought I was silenced,” Lady Whistledown obligingly says in voiceover. “But you thought wrong.” The clip ends with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) writing, “Yours truly, Lady Whistledown.” Dramaaaaaa.

The third season is set to focus on the romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope. Voiced by Julia Andrews, Lady Whistledown is the gossip-monger whose newsletter has caused its fair share of drama in the series before.

Though most people in the ton are unaware of her identity, at the end of season one, Lady Whistledown was revealed to be none other than Penelope, and at the end of season two, this was discovered by her long-term friend Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie). The pair are no longer speaking as a result – something that the new season will also undoubtedly focus on.

Bridgerton has become something of a phenomenon ever since it launched in 2020: the first season was streamed by 82 million households in its first month and became the number one show in more than seventy countries.
